A construction project manager is an individual who is hired by the construction project owner to overlook and plan all aspects of a construction project. The overall duty of a construction project manager is to make sure that a construction project is finished by the set deadline and within the budget that was allocated for the project.

The exact duties of a construction project manager can be divided into several areas. One is supervising all construction workers working on a particular project to make sure they do the job properly and efficiently. Another duty is to communicate with the clients to resolve any issues/conflicts that might arise and also to explain the cost and time requirements that are needed for the project. Lastly, the manager is responsible for scheduling meetings, workers' hours and to report the progress results to the project manager.

The requirements needed to apply for the construction project management job position vary based on the criteria which the employer (the project owner) is looking for but there are certain requirements that are requested by almost all construction companies.

A bachelor's degree especially in civil engineering, a certification from the American institute of the constructors, and at least 5 years of work experience in the field are the most common criteria that construction companies are looking for in a potential project manager.

There was a time in which the only requirement for being a construction project manager was experience in the construction industry. But nowadays, an education tailored towards construction management has become a necessity and an absolute requirement for achieving this job position.

The salary given to a construction project manager greatly varies based on the years of experience of the manager. A new manager with no or little experience can expect to receive around $40,000-50,000 a year. With 10 years of experience the salary jumps to $80,000 a year and with 20 years of field experience a construction project manager can expect a $100,000/year salary.
